ritidoplasty

Procedure aimed at removing excess skin from the face and correcting facial angles that may be altered.

Over the years, the loss of elasticity of the skin, sun exposure, the effect of gravity and the repetitive effect of some features of facial expression make the skin relax. On the other hand, there is also reabsorption of the bones of the face with the passing of the years, especially the less prominent jaw and cheekbones, and favoring the descent of the skin. It may require removing excess skin, softening the lines of expression (wrinkles) by stressing the skin and muscles of the face and recreating the appropriate angles on the face again. Since there is bone resorption, it may require facial fillers, osteotomies or prosthesis placement in areas such as the chin.

At the initial consultation, your surgeon will assess your health status, important medical history and assess your facial features by determining which option is best for you. If you are hypertensive, it is possible to operate it as long as it is controlled. If it heals poorly, has any other disease, smokes, has spontaneous or prolonged bleeding, tell your plastic surgeon. All drugs that increase bleeding such as aspirin, anti-inflammatories, vitamin E, omega 3, ginko biloba and other naturopathic medications should be discontinued. Smokers should quit smoking completely at least 2 weeks before surgery, to avoid complications.

The postoperative pain of this surgery is minimal. You will find drainage tubes and compression bandage around your head to prevent bruising, they will be removed the next day and will be able to get up, shower and wash your hair. Take formulated medications. You can return to your daily work between 10 and 15 days. After the 1st week you can wear makeup. Avoid for a month strong physical activities, dye your hair, smoke, use of swimming pools, saunas. Use sunscreen for 6 months and avoid direct sun exposure for 3 months. Initially you will feel sensitivity alterations which is normal, by the 1st month it has already recovered, however some patients may take up to 6 months to fully recover.

There are few medical conditions such as thyroid, cardiovascular diseases, circulatory problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, dry eye, glaucoma, which would make a risky procedure of rhytidoplasty. However, if these conditions are controlled and your surgery is performed by a qualified Plastic Surgeon and you properly follow the instructions and indications, the risks and complications are rare and minimal.
